Spruce is a 2-dimensional 35' x 70' experiment constructed by Christine Kirouac and graduate student Steve Lavign. As an action, it is a response to the 'site' of the Artlab Gallery by covering the double doors situated in the middle of the 54' wall with a morphing form constructed entirely of interior design wooden floor boards.

By instinctively choosing how the form developed based on the color and texture of the boards, the 'installing' became an intuitive act of painting or drawing. The result was a shifting shape that challenged scale, architecture and balance. The 'flat' and 'relief' flip of Spruce suggest physical traces of modernist design, yet disorients the viewer with a sense of form collapsing and building.
