NAKED CITY

35 mm photographs

Naked City is a 35 mm photographic series testing both the legacies and translations of art historical tropes as they move through personalized territory. Blurred, black & white slides of mothers, daughters, sons and fathers are bent and warped as they are projected upon the Romanesque anatomy of an aroused male nude. The nude is only seen from collar to knee, moving almost imperceptibly in and out of the projected light, and the smiling faces of nostalgic moments. In the process, prototypical art historical genres overlap as the subjects are forced to pose together. The ‘family’ portraits are subsequently suggested and erased in dreamlike moments that flutter out of focus.
