SUPER[MARKET] SERIES

2002 – 2005
Oil on canvas

Turning banality to enigma, this series of paintings position an anonymous cast of objects in a state of candy-colored limbo. In this soft, painterly space, industrial floor cleaners, subway seats, fragmented bulldozers, and other modular items detach from site and assigned function to float in voids of vibrant pantomime. Straddling the borders of abstraction, design and distortion, these paintings push ubiquitous items into aesthetic question marks.
